Stallard.Cloud - How I'm taking control of my Data.

For a while now, I've been considering a more streamlined approach to managing my digital clutter, which is currently scattered across various cloud storage services like iCloud, Google Drive, and Dropbox. My main goals were to enhance my data privacy and simplify access.

Recently, I found a good deal on a Synology NAS, prompting me to finally take action. By opting for this NAS, I'm able to bring together all my files and documents under one roof, giving me full control over my data. This consolidation is not just a step towards better organization; it also means I can cut down on the multiple subscription fees I've been paying.

Moreover, the NAS setup offers a practical solution for freeing up space on my computers. Now, I can offload bulky files without losing the convenience of quick access. To ensure ample storage and reliability, I equipped the NAS with four 12TB drives configured in Synology's Hybrid RAID. This setup not only gives me a generous ~32TB of usable space but also protects my data against potential drive failures.

On that note, I've complemented my storage strategy with Backblaze B2 Cloud Storage. This offsite backup acts as a fail-safe against any unforeseen disasters or security breaches, such as ransomware attacks, natural disaster, fire, etc... ensuring my data remains secure and recoverable under any circumstances.

I'm sure that this is just the beginning of my journey down the rabbit hole of self-hosting and I will continue to document my various projects and findings here.
